The 2017 Ford Raptor: Part Truck, Part Rocket

I’m just going to put this out there: the 2017 Ford Raptor is the most badass truck in the F-Series, and it’s not even close. This is a leaner, meaner Raptor, quite possibly the most capable mass-produced off road vehicle on the market, period.

From its high-output 3.5L EcoBoost engine to its lightweight aluminum body to its improved off-road capabilities to its SuperCrew model, contrast stitching, and beadlock capable wheels, the 2017 Ford Raptor gives you more at every turn.

Oh, and it looks like a @$#^@ Batmobile on roids.

“Raptor was designed to be a no-compromise, off-road performance machine,” said Ford Performance engineering supervisor Matt Tranter. “That is why we made the switch from the cast-iron V8 to the aluminum block, high-output GTDI V6 EcoBoost engine that our team tuned to add 39 horsepower and 76 lb-ft of torque for today’s Raptor.”

That’s right. The twin-turbo, intercooled DOHC 24-valve high-output 3.5L EcoBoost® with direct fuel injection actually delivers more power than the previous generation’s V8 counterpart. We’re talking 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft of torque. All this in a truck that’s 500 lbs. lighter now, thanks to Ford’s new aluminum body.

Now you can handle all kinds of surfaces, at speed. This is thanks to the torque-on-demand transfer case and six-mode Terrain Management System–sport, mud/sand, rock/crawl, weather, Baja, and normal). You’re going to fall in love with Baja, as it locks in 4X4 high and absolutely nails throttle and transmission response.

The 2017 Ford Raptor is the most off-road capable mass produced vehicle ever built. The first-generation Raptor handled itself well off-road, but the 2017 Raptor is a beast.

Its running clearance is better than before, and with the new torque-on-demand transfer case, the power distribution between the front and rear wheels is as good as its ever been. The Raptor strikes a great balance between clutch-driven on-demand all-wheel drive and the more sturdy, locked four-wheel drive.

And then there’s the 3-inch internal bypass FOX Racing Shox. Your suspension components won’t shutter or groan when put through a bit of abuse. They simply get the job done.

All in all, you’re looking at stronger off-road performance with a smoother on-road drive.

With Raptor’s class-exclusive beadlock capable wheel, you get the best performance on- and off-road. Deflate them for maximum traction off-road, and you’ll notice that they’ll stay tight enough when you get back on the road.

Rocky paths that can be challenging, even for crossovers, are traversed with little effort in the Raptor. Deep ruts and holes are now things to scoff at.

Deep sport seats with contrast stitching, carbon-fibre accents throughout, and a contoured steering wheel make the Raptor your home away from home.

SuperCrew Model

Badder just got bigger.

The SuperCrew model has bigger doors, a larger interior, and more room to have fun. It comes standard with a 360-degree camera and best of all, it features the Raptor’s signature look.

This is an aggressive, badass truck. The distinctive “FORD” grill, front skid plate, and powerful haunches make the Raptor look like it can barrel through anything you want to throw at it. My favourite change this year is with the rear departure angle. The improved angle makes transitions from flat land to steep hills that much better.
